Our shop is still discovered by newcomers every day, despite the fact that we have been around for almost 30 years.
In the late 80s of the last century (we don't know exactly when) Nexus Six was started as a store where you could find everything related to films; think of posters, photos of actors (signed or not), gadgets such as postcards, buttons, etc. and of course the Disney films were also part of that.
The name chosen was "Nexus Six" after the series of droids/robots of the same name from the cult film"Blade Runner".
After a few years it was decided to specialize in Disney and even more specifically in collectibles. It was the golden decade for collectors; the now retired WDCC collection had only just been created, the "seri-cell" market had an unprecedented success after the process was first commercialized by Disney, and also in the field of films Disney was back in the picture after film hits like "Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Lion King" etc. This decision turned out to be a bull's eye and this store was a leader for a long time. The name "Nexus Six" was retained and a nickname "The Pixiedust Gallery" was also used to focus on the artwork.
But things can change in life, and early 2009 the owners called it a day. The "boom" was largely over and they lacked the drive to start something new.
Under the motto "nothing ventured, nothing gained" we took the plunge and took over the store. We tried to broaden the range somewhat, but always kept the focus on the "collectible" aspect. We also initially kept the name "Nexus Six" because we had no insight into the importance of name recognition. We could still link the Latin word "Nexus" as in "A connection that connects two or more persons or things with each other." to the common interest in Disney that our customers have. But that was it.
Six years ("six", no pun intended) later, we feel strong enough to cut the proverbial knot. Most of our customers refer to it as "the Nexus" in practice, and that gave us the idea to change the name to DNexus, where the "D" of course stands for everything that has to do with Disney. "connection" or "Nexus" remains present as a link to the old, and as a reference to our shared preference for Disney films and Disney characters.
Hopefully you agree with our choice...
As of 1/9/2015 the site, email addresses, facebook and all references to our store were switched to DNexus.
